Certificate II in Retail Operations

Summary 

This course is for people who wish to work in sales and service in a retail environment at a junior level.

Depending on the course electives available/chosen candidates will learn about customer service, selling products and services, occupational health and safety, food safety, controlling stock and loss prevention, merchandising, product knowledge, operating retail equipment, point of sales handling procedures, communication, and teamwork.

Learning will take place by a combination of strategies, including practical activities, online learning activities, industry case studies, role plays, simulations and operating both individually and in teams.

This course may be undertaken as a traineeship.

 

 Units of Competency

A total of fourteen units units must be completed. This compromises:

  • Ten core units, and
  • Four elective units

Elective Units:

The elective units chosen will depend upon the industry the participant is employed in/wishes to seek employment in.

 

Duration

The duration of this course varies depending upon previous retail experience and if it is undertaken as a traineeship. Generally the duration ranges from 3 months to 12 months. 

 

Assessment 

Assessment  is completed through a number of means. Examples include: short written assessments, direct observation of trainee performing specific tasks, verbal questioning, role plays, supervisor reports and workbook tasks.

 

Articulation

When you finish this course you may be eligible complete a Certificate III in Retail Operations or Certificate III in Retail Supervision. 

 

Career Opportunities

This course prepares you for positions in sales, customer service and administration for a range of retail stores.
